To my jewish friends

Only because I think you will understand this neurosis more...:)
I read other blogs of folks who have referrals of their Tawinese children around the same time as us..they are just waiting on courtdates...all of them are shopping and decorating and getting ready. Me..I start then stop. I am tooo paranoid. That old "ken-a-hera" ....am I crazy. I decided that once next weeks' hearing is completed we will know where we are with everything...either we go to a second hearing(which I suspect) or we get judge's green light...and it will be just a few weeks more...I have bed picked out...we are finalizing colors...and well, as far as clothes go...once we get final green light..I know that I can hit a Gap for Kids and other places and get loaded up on clothes ....I think toys will be the same thing...I had bought her a ton of stuff tht is in Taiwan with her and I send her toys everyother week......so I think she is o'k....but am I crazy. I wish I felt more secure...but again, it's the old jewish thing...don't do anything till baby is born. Any thoughts????

Yikes, flashbacks. I went thru so much of this, especially with my whole fakockta story. Not wanting to jinx or ken-a-hara things by buying or preparing ANYTHING, while at the same time, "geez, I've been working on this for over 2 years, how can I be totally unprepared when she comes home?!!" FWIW, I think you're totally on target by having things thought out and essentially good to go...without actually being done...til the green light. Besides, with a few basics, she can start off just fine. Call me!

Here's another superstitious Jew weighing in, ha ha. I totally understand your feelings. Shopping for a child not yet here can be a great way to digest that she is really coming of course. In reality, what she needs is YOU and the stuff is almost inconsequential. Besides, people will be giving you a ton of stuff and then you'll be like, yikes, where do I put it all??? Anyway, it's all so great and I can't wait to meet her!

I'm not Jewish but it's also an Italian thing in my family. We had nothing - I mean nothing for Joseph. I had ordered the crib but had nothing else. I didn't even have a shower (not because we are Italian) Just didn't want it. I went into labor 2 weeks early and it all worked out. got everything we needed. I have really nothing for M just gifts from others. I think I bought 2 really cheap dresses at the gap also. you'll be shopping before you know it :)
